Graham Courtney is a registered psychologist and clinical psychology registrar. He holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of New South Wales and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Western Sydney.

Graham has worked primarily in acute mental health care settings, both public and private hospitals and in private practice. He has experience providing psychological services for individuals, groups, couples and families. He works with adults, adolescents and children. Graham has particular experience assisting people to work through issues relating to depression, anxiety (Specific phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety and Social Phobia), stress, self-esteem issues, anger-management and with substance abuse problems.

He also has experience providing formal psychological assessments as well as supportive counselling for sub-clinical issues. He has a warm and approachable style that puts new clients at ease and he takes pride in creating strong therapeutic alliances with his clients.

Graham is familiar with a range of evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), and mindfulness-based cognitive therapies.

Graham’s approach is primarily client-centred – which means he will endeavour to work collaboratively with you in order to find the approach that will be the most beneficial for you. His goal as a therapist is to continually expand and improve his capacity to provide quality, evidence-based services to individual’s experiencing difficulties in a compassionate and respectful manner.

What you can expect

The initial session is a chance for you to discuss what is bothering you, to find out about therapy will involve, what you hope to get out of it, and what you feel is the best way to bring that about. In subsequent sessions, Graham will work with you to find the approach most suited to your situation and current needs.

Bulk billing options for those in financial hardship are available. Medicare and private health insurance rebates are also available.

Graham is currently available on Saturdays.
